Alternative Provision

Adventure-fuelled learning that re-engages, refocuses, and elevates their mental and physical wellbeing

At The Outdoor Ed School, we’re on a mission to create real change for young people. Partnering with SCC Council, we deliver dynamic, high-impact programmes that equip every child with the confidence, skills, and momentum they need to thrive.

What we do...

If you’re reading this, it’s because you’re not the kind of teacher who just notices a student struggling, you feel it.

You’ve got at least one student whose behaviour is screaming for help: disrupting lessons, withdrawing, drifting into the wrong crowds, losing focus after seconds, missing school, getting in trouble inside and outside the classroom.

You’re here because you’re searching for a new, creative, effective way to support them before they slip any further.

These aren’t random behaviours, these are red flags. Signals that the traditional classroom isn’t connecting.

That’s exactly where alternative provision come in.

The Outdoor Ed School gives you a powerful, adventurous solution that re-engages students through dynamic outdoor experiences, mountain biking, archery, laser tag, pioneering and more. Each one engineered with embedded social, emotional, and behavioural outcomes.

Every activity is a tool for real growth: sharper focus, better communication, stronger problem-solving, improved teamwork, increased responsibility, deeper respect, and the confidence to try, fail, succeed, and try again.

These are the skills that not only help students reintegrate into mainstream learning, they’re the skills that shape who they become long after they leave your classroom.

This is alternative provision that actually changes behaviour, rebuilds belief, and gives struggling students the foundation they need to succeed in school, in life, and in every future path they choose.

How we do it...

By this point, you’re probably thinking: “This all sounds great… but how does it actually work?”

Simple.

Our AP Programme runs on a framework we’ve spent five years building, testing, refining, and perfecting. It's now award-winning, proven, and trusted by schools across the Hampshire.

It all runs on just six powerful steps.

Step 1 - Information Gathering (The Deep Dive)

We start with you.
Together, we identify the student’s behaviours, triggers, strengths, interests, likes, dislikes, desired learning outcomes, and their current starting point.
Then we map the desired end goal.
We identify the gap and build a complete profile so we know exactly how to support this student from day one.

Step 2 — Engagement (Creating Buy-In)

Now we hook them in.
We hand-pick the activities they’ll love most, high-energy, fun, hands-on sessions that make them actually look forward to their AP day.
This is also where we build powerful rapport. They feel safe. They feel seen. They feel heard.
Once that trust is locked in, we move on.

Step 3 — Little Wins (Learning by Stealth)

With engagement secured, we start embedding your learning outcomes straight into the sessions.
They learn through fun. They grow without the resistance.
Across our full rotation of 16 award-winning activities, they naturally build the behaviours, focus, and social skills you want without feeling like they’re being “taught.”

Step 4 — Big Wins (Activity Selection & Qualifications)

After the rotation, we identify the activities they connected with most, usually one, two, or three favourites.
Then we introduce structured teaching sessions that allow them to work toward nationally recognised qualifications in their chosen activities.
They choose the path. We guide the progress.
Small wins stack into big wins, all tracked and celebrated.

Step 5 — Identify the Hero (Vision Building)

Now we zoom out. It’s time to look at who they want to become, not who adults tell them to be.
We help them define their “hero”:

  • How does this person act?

  • What do they stand for?

  • How do they communicate?

  • What are their morals?

  • How do they treat others?

  • What are their goals?

This clarity becomes the blueprint for their personal transformation.

Step 6 — Become the Hero (Holistic Development)

With the blueprint in place, we create a step-by-step plan that helps them grow into the person they defined in their version of a hero.
Every activity becomes a tool for character development.
By the end, they’ve:

  • Rebuilt focus

  • Improved behaviour

  • Boosted attendance

  • Grown their social confidence

  • Achieved qualifications

  • Met your learning outcomes

  • Become ready to reintegrate into mainstream education

These aren’t skills that disappear when AP ends.
These are skills they take into school, into life, and into every future opportunity.

Throughout the entire journey, every single step is tracked. Every session is logged in detail, giving us a crystal-clear record of progress, behaviour, wins, challenges, and breakthroughs.

At the end of each half term and full term, you receive a detailed progress report that highlights exactly how the student is developing, what’s improving, what they’ve achieved, and what they’re working toward next.

We don’t just send reports, we stay proactive.

If we spot new ways to support the student better, you hear about it immediately.

You’re kept fully informed, fully updated, and fully in the loop at every stage of their transformation. This means you see their entire journey, every win, every shift, every step forward on the road to success.

Choosing your AP type...

We offer three powerful ways to deliver AP, designed to fit the exact needs of your students and your school.

Mixed-School Group Provision

Schools can send individual students to join a blended group with learners from other schools.

This option is laser-focused on social skills development, helping students learn how to interact, communicate, and work with peers outside their usual environment.

Starts from £60 per 1.5 hour session

School Group Provision

Bring a group of up to 12 students who are struggling in the school environment and let them experience the programme together.

Perfect for half-term or full-term blocks, this option builds group cohesion, shared achievement, and collective behavioural progress.

Starts from £100 per 1.5 hour session

Private 1:1 (or 1:2) Provision

For students who need deep, tailored support, we deliver private sessions using our full six-stage framework.

This is the most personalised option, high-impact, high-support, and built to create rapid behavioural, emotional, and social progress.

Starts from £85 per 1.5 hour session

SUCCESS STORY: From Daily Disruption to Daily Progress

When Tom (name changed) first came to us, he was the student every teacher cared about but struggled to reach. Constant classroom disruption. Zero focus. Poor attendance. Hanging around the wrong crowd. A regular in isolation. Every behaviour was a flashing red warning light and mainstream simply wasn’t working for him anymore.

Step 1: Information Gathering
In our first conversation with his school, we built a full profile: his triggers, his interests, his dislikes, his strengths, his desired learning outcomes and most importantly, the gap between where he was and where he needed to be.

Step 2: Engagement
We hand-picked high-energy sessions we knew would hook him instantly: mountain biking, laser tag, archery. Within two weeks, he was asking staff, “Is it AP day today?” He trusted our instructors, felt seen, and finally had something in the week he wanted to come in for.

Step 3: Learning by Stealth
Once the engagement kicked in, we embedded the school’s learning outcomes directly into the activities. Suddenly, Tom was practising listening skills during archery, problem-solving skills during pioneering, and communication skills during mountain biking without feeling like he was being “taught.” His behaviour steadily improved.

Step 4: Activity Selection & Qualifications
After rotating through our 16 activities, Tom gravitated toward mountain biking and bushcraft. He chose them and that sense of ownership lit him up. He began working toward nationally recognised qualifications, hitting milestone after milestone. Each win rebuilt his confidence.

Step 5: Identify the Hero
We helped Tom define his “hero version”: someone who shows respect, keeps focused, communicates clearly, and leads others with confidence. This became the blueprint for who he wanted to become.

Step 6: Become the Hero
Over the next few weeks, we built the step-by-step plan to help him live out that version every day, in sessions, in school, and at home. His behaviour improved. Attendance rose. Staff reported he was calmer, more respectful, and more engaged. His parents noticed the change too.

And the best part?

He reintegrated back into mainstream with stronger focus, better behaviour, a qualification he was proud of… and the confidence of someone who finally believed in himself again.

This is the power of the AP framework — real progress, real change, real results.
